Call for demonstration
We call for a demonstration in Pforzheim on 13 May 2017 against deportation prisons, deportation custody and any further stripping away of refugee rights.
"The actual enforcement of the obligation to leave the country is only possible if the country has the necessary instruments and facilities, and this includes the deportation prison in Pforzheim" (the Minister of the Interior of Baden-Württemberg, Strobl).
Why do we want to demonstrate in Pforzheim in front of the deportation prison?
Refugees, who are refused the necessary protection according to asylum legislation, will in the future be deported faster, as planned by the Federal Government. The number of "repatriations," as they are euphemistically called in bureaucratic language, is supposed to rapidly increase. A law "for an improved enforcement of the obligation to leave the country" created the precondition for that. Deportation detention and deportation custody are central building blocks in this process. The plan is to make it easier to order detention and custody, and to extend the duration of the detention. People are taken into custody, simply because they cannot return to misery, war and despair or participate in their own deportation.
In order to raise the pressure on the affected persons, more deportation prisons are being built. One of them is in Pforzheim, and the plan is to enlarge it to have room for 80 detainees this year. This was still decided on by the Green-SPD Government of Baden-Württemberg. Deportation detention criminalises refugees and discredits their reasons for fleeing, given that prison is usually associated with crime.
Those who are affected often have been living here for years and are suddenly declared undesirable. So far, people have been arrested in authority offices, at school, at the workplace or at home without advance notice and put into detention in Pforzheim. It is planned to make it possible in the future to detain even women and families.
The group deportations by charter flight to Afghanistan in December 2016 and January 2017 already included people with many years of toleration (Duldung) and even sick people. One of the deported men was injured a few days later in "safe" Kabul during a suicide bomber attack. It is a scandal that people are deported to civil war in Afghanistan or the allegedly safe Balkan countries, where especially the Roma are facing racist persecution and a total lack of perspectives.
Escape and migration are not crimes.
We are not willing to accept this inhuman deportation practice. Deportation detention and custody must be abolished. The deportation prison in Pforzheim must be closed. Let us interfere! We demand the right to stay for people seeking protection.
